The Evolution of Ivy Poison The Evolution of Ivy Volume 1 edition by Lauren Campbell Romance eBooks
Is Ivy crazy? Possibly. She acts a little unhinged and obsessive. Is she tenacious? Absolutely. She's been both mentally belittled and physically damaged by a high school bully but she overcomes many obstacles and comes back fighting. Is she conniving? Most definitely. She has a game plan and she's sticking to it. Is she a cookie-cutter heroine? No. I've never met another character like her: flawed and self-centered and not afraid to show it. Ivy is completely honest with the reader...every thought, no matter how perverse or ugly, is right there in black and white. Am I rooting for her? Yes. Every step of the way!Lauren Campbell has created a fascinating character in Ivy and is extremely adept at telling her story. I was riveted from the first word to the last. The rest of the characters are interesting and a little mysterious...are they actually who they seem to be? The story is told primarily from Ivy's point of view but Lauren also allows a glimpse into the minds of some others in the cast and this gives them dimension not often seen.
Lauren Campbell can write! I highly recommend this book. Put her on your list of "must read" authors.

The Evolution of Ivy Poison The Evolution of Ivy Volume 1 edition by Lauren Campbell Romance eBooks Reviews
It's hard to believe that this is Lauren Campbell's debut novel- and that she wrote this story in only 3 weeks!
I learned about her on a different author's page and am always looking for something to read so I thought I'd give her a chance. I didn't even read the blurb so I went in blind. My mind was blown. I devoured this book, and fell in love with Ivy and her story. There are many books that deliver a good story with mediocre writing, or great writing with an ok plot, even books of long time favorite authors. Lauren delivers the best of both in The Evolution of Ivy Poison, and leaves you wanting more. Ivy is a combination of confidence and insecurity, she's sexy and makes you embrace her crazy. I'm so invested in her story and can't wait until the next book in the series is out.
Also, this book is a steal at only $0.99, and oh so satisfying. Buy it for yourself and gift it to your bookworm friends.
Ivy and Brooks have their first "we are meant to be together forever crush moment" in middle school. They are both feeling the connection. Then Brooks's family moves away for 3 years. When Brooks comes back, Ivy's image, internally and externally, has changed. Brooks has no interest in Ivy but Ivy can't get over their connection.
Ivy becomes obsessed with winning Brooks back and we see what type of measures she takes to accomplish that.
The story is mainly told from Ivy's point of view and goes between the present and the past. I enjoyed the last 20% of the book the most because we finally see get an 'OMG' moment that brings all this scheming Ivy has been doing to an explosive finish to the book. I even thought the end of the book was left with a good enough conclusion that one could end it here or see what happens next with Ivy and Brooks.
My personal thoughts on the book - for a debut book, it had originality with lots of drama but I personally didn't connect with the characters. Ivy was a little too nutty for my taste.
I read a book from cover to cover including the acknowledgments and 'about the author' section. Authors will have additional insight to the reason why they wrote it and also their feelings about the book. Lauren thanks Colleen Hoover (whom I love) for inspiring her to write! I think that is awesome. I salute Lauren and all debut authors because it is hard to put yourself out there to be critiqued.
First of all, this cover is amazing. I totally judged this book by its cover. It's gorgeous and intrigued me before I even read the blurb. If you are a writer, you would want your debut book's cover to look like this. That's not the point though. I loved everything about this book-the cover, the characters, and the pacing of the plot. I hate to say it, but Ivy is the villain you root for. You WANT her to get her revenge and win Brooks over. Does this mean Ivy is my kind of crazy? Um...maybe? What does that say about me? At this point though, I don't care. I loved it!
Lauren has an easy way of telling a story. Her words flowed so well that I had trouble putting this book down even though I had virtually no time to read it since it loaded to my a few days ago. Lauren did an excellent job of developing all of her characters. Each character down to Jared, Ivy's hot neighbor, has such depth that you can completely envision that these are real people that you have actually met at some point in high school and your 20s. Ivy had such horrible teen years thanks to Eliza and her manipulative, cruel nature, and when you meet her as a 28 year old soon to be woman, you secretly hope that she is the same evil person she was as a teenager so that Ivy's revenge will be that much sweeter. Eliza is that person from high school and or that girl you met as a twenty-something that you loathed.
With Ivy/Emily's chapters, I really felt like I was inside of her head. She completely rationalized everything out in her head, and after reading how she justified her actions, I caught myself thinking that it makes sense for her to take an extreme course of action to gain Brooks's attention. I will not give anything away, but I will say I'm definitely ready to read the next book and see how the story progresses.
